Art Grounded in Nature
Through creating harmonious and realistic water colour illustrations I strive to showcase the natural wonders of the world; no matter how small. By blending artistic expression and natural history illustration, these paintings express my love and connection with the natural world, whilst being informed by scientific knowledge. I believe art can be a voice for our planet; inspiring us to protect, and live harmoniously within nature.
Vibrant acrylic landscapes celebrate a life lived outdoors. I have a true appreciation of the culture and spirit of people who push their boundaries, living freely, playfully and harmoniously in the environments that inspire them. These colourful landscapes are inspired by my adventures camping, hiking, canoeing, and skiing; but most importantly, they are inspired by the outdoor community.
Getting Inspiration
I spend as much time as possible outside, whether it be in the back-country, or simply in my backyard! These experiences ground me, and my work.
Feild sketches and Paintings
While outdoors I always carry a sketchbook or small watercolour paper; not only do these create beautiful work on their own, but they help to inform bigger paintings!
Making a plan…
With the help of my field sketches, reference photos or re-search, I put a sketch together as my “map” for a painting. This allows me to get it just right before moving on to my final painting surface.
Putting it all together!
And finally its time to paint! By choosing my final medium (watercolours, or acrylic), I am able to put brush to paper, or wood!
